JCCD provides workshops and seminars for consumers and interpeters. Three times a year, JCCD provides American Sign Language classes. JCCD provides information and referral assistance as well as advocacy services. JCCD strongly believe in the rights of deaf citizens including access to public services. JCCD staff makes arrangements for interpreters and captioners in many different part of downstate Illinois. JCCD provides a new service of CART (Computer Assisted Real-Time) captioning referral. JCCD has establish a list of freelance court-reporters who have training and equipment to caption for meetings. Some people prefer it as a method of communication. JCCD is a distribution center for the ITAC (Illinois Telecommunication Access Corporation)TTY program. The center has applications for distribution of new TTY's. Approved applicants can come to JCCD to obtain a new TTY and for ITAC TTY repairs as well. JCCD is open from 8am to 5pm on weekdays. Closed on weekends and holidays. JCCD is funded through grants from DHS (Department of Human Services), the Office of Rehabilitation Service and the Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse to provide many of these services. |
