The Association is a private, community-based, not-for profit organization, serving over 2,000 individuals of all ages who are developmentally and/or physically disabled or in need of behavioral health care and who reside in over 40 communities in Kane, Kendall, and Dekalb Counties, Hanover Township in Cook County, and the city of Aurora.

Admissions & Case Management Services
Provides case finding, outreach and linkage to clients applying for services. Standardized assessment services are available in motor skills, work aptitudes, vocational interest, intelligence and academic achievement. Psychiatric counseling, case management, medication monitoring, housing support, and in-house support provided.

Infant Program
Home-based developmental services, provided by Parent-Infant Educators. Center-based classroom for children 24-36 months of age. Developmental Assessment, Diagnostic Clinic, referral & linkage, transition to public school, parent support groups, Bi-lingual Educator (Spanish-English), community screening, and car seat loan program are offered.

Respite Services
The Respite Program strives to maintain individuals who are developmentally disabled in their own homes. In-facility respite available for emergencies only.

Employment Services
Finds employment for individuals with disabilities in the community. On-site support is provided, based on individuals needs. This support ranges from intensive one-on-one support to infrequent follow-ups.

Skill Training
Provides janitorial skills and food service training in preparation for competitive employment, or ongoing employment by AID.

Career Development
Provides short-term training and vocational counseling to individuals with a goal of community employment. Training is offered in a variety of settings including janitorial, housekeeping, food service, warehousing, production, and other settings.

Work Services
Long-term employment in a sheltered setting is also an option. Wages are based upon productivity, with most workers making less than minimum age. Services offered at Elgin Rehab Center and Thompson Center.

Developmental Training Program
Provides training to individuals with developmental disabilities to help maximize or maintain their functional, social and vocational skills, and to maximize their integration into the community. Services offered at Elgin Rehab Center and Thompson Center.

Keeler Center
Provides developmental training using the active treatment process to individuals with severe/profound mental and/or physical disabilities, using a functional skills curriculum. Areas include: sensory motor, fine motor, gross motor, self-care, social interpersonal, leisure and recreational, communication, and community integration A community pool is also available.

Community Living
Group homes or foster homes and residential settings that provide individualized programming to adults with developmental disabilities or who are behaviorally challenged. Training provided in all living skills. Emphasis on community integration and client choices.
Provides services and support to individuals in apartment/community settings based on individual needs in areas of money management, cooking, apartment maintenance, etc.

Pathways
Pathways is a Psychosocial Rehabilitation (PSR) program which provides a range of social, educational, occupational, behavioral and cognitive intervention designed to increase basic psychosocial capacities in everyday life.

Homemakers
Provides supportive services to individuals qualifying for nursing care and enabling them to remain independently in their own home as long as possible.

Crisis Line of the Fox Valley
Free confidential 24-hour, 365 days a year, telephone counseling by paraprofessional volunteer operators who are trained to help the caller with problems from loneliness, to relationship issues, emergency situations and suicide, to many others. A full range of services may be provided if needed.

  • Sunshine Calls to the elderly to shut-ins are provided free of charge. These calls provide a friendly call each day to see if the person is all right and in need of any support services.
  • Teen Talk is a free, confidential telephone line staffed by paraprofessional volunteer teen operators who are equipped to help teen callers with everything from just needing to talk to problems they may have.
  • Kane County Info is a free, confidential information and referral telephone service to provide answers to callers for needs such as counseling, employment, financial, health, legal and many others.

Crisis Intervention Services (CIS)
CIS provides immediate intensive treatment to reduce symptomatology and to stabilize clients' ability to function in the community. Immediate preliminary assessment, brief counseling, referral and linkage, are also provided.

Therapy Services
Provides occupational, physical and speech services to individuals with disabilities.
